Yeah, love reading what I call "just for fun" blogs that aren't tech or ed. I have a few cycling blogs (I am a road cyclist) I read as well as some family and friend blogs I check out to keep up with those who are not so close to me. My wife has a bunch of mom blogs she reads and as of late, she rss's some great "couponing" sites that help her find deals at places like Publix and Walgreens. As for non-ed posts on my edtech blog...well, I tend to save those for the family blog we have over at http://the5richs.blogspot.com but my professional blog is pretty young so I guess only time will tell as to what kinds of posts I put up there.

mbrandon,
Thanks for the comment! I'm glad you were able to see a session that you missed :) It is so frustrating when you go to a conference and the sessions you want to see are happening at the same time!
What a great idea though...to add places for the SCCBA Nominees. Are you placing them in the author's home town or where the book is based?
An idea for links may be to link them to the SCASL page where there is the document for activities and book talks for the book award nominees.
Good luck and Thanks for checking out my class.

Hi Julia. I attended your Google Lit Trips session at ETV this week because I missed it at SCASL and I am so glad I was able to see it. I've just finished adding places for 2 Children's Book Award Nominees for this year (Jack Plank Tells Tales & The Earth Dragon Awakes). I haven't gotten into the pictures and descriptions or discussion questions yet but I'm excited so far. Thank you so much for this valuable training. :)

Thanks for the encouraging words Greg! I am going to plan to do exactly what you said...start small! Then, hopefully it will spread throughout the school.

Sorry, I posted in the wrong section. I'm only a tech teacher what do you expect. haha

Keep your head up. One thing that has helped me is to develop a philosophy for reaching every teacher. I try to remember that everyone wants to be included in what is going on. If you can get a few to get excited and going strong it will eventually spread.
For those that are very reluctant will take some effort. Spend some quality time with them helping to make them comfortable with the little technology that they do use.
7 years ago I had some teachers that just couldn’t work their email. So, I started sending out a picture that was cropped out of a bigger picture. The picture was of a familiar object around the school. The first one to email me back with what the picture was would get a prize. Here’s the catch: after I sent the email. I would go to those teacher’s rooms and help them open the attachment and save it to their computers. After 2 to 3 times of doing that they were able to open and save the attachment without me. Their confidence grew and I got my way! Soon they were opening Word docs and everything without my help!
It was small, but it was a step. Keep after it, you will get them there.
I hope that made some kind of sense. ;-)

Keep your expectations high while still meeting them on their level. I am making ground with the teacher who doesn't use email. I actually had an email from her today ... asking for assistance. YAY! It will be easier next year when they see its the same person... I promise!

Julia - enjoyed so much the Google Lit trip session that you did and I can't wait to introduce this at school. What I'd really like to develop is a Literary Google Lit trip with local authors. My "big girl" book club is planning a road trip and it would be fun to tie in Google Lit trip mapping and even geocache the trip. Mmmm.... wish I had more time!

Joyce,
Thanks for the interest in my session. I hope the handouts are helpful.
There is not any narration on any of the tours that I have taken. Each place marker has either text, pictures, weblinks, or a combination of these. This gives you or the students the opportunity to pause, reflect, and discuss this place and how it relates to the book.
Thanks for commenting,
Julia
